Yorkshire Wildlife Park and its collection

Yorkshire Wildlife Park, opened in 2009, is a zoo in Auckley, United Kingdom.

It holds 500 animals of 100 species on about 100 acres of a former 260-acre visitor centre and riding school property.

History

The property was bought in 2008 by Cheryl and Neville Williams with John and Stephen Minion, backed by Lloyds TSB Commercial, private money and a Yorkshire Forward grant. The park opened in 2009 where Brockholes Farm, a riding school and petting zoo, had been. A new entrance on the eastern side opened in 2021.

Animals and collection

Animals on show include African penguins, Golden Lion Tamarin, sea lion, Rothschild giraffe and Cheetah.

Exhibits

Lion Country opened in May 2010 for 13 African lions taken from Oradea Zoological Garden in Romania that February. Lemur Woods is a wooded walk-through with crowned, ring-tailed and red-bellied lemurs, while the Into Africa zone centres on African Plains, a large savannah-themed mixed-species paddock. Atlantic Forest opened in April 2021.

• The distance between the accessible car park and Wildlife Park entrance is approximately 240m.
• The majority of the pathways throughout the main park are level, with shallow gradients in areas. All pathways are accessible to wheelchair users.
• You can hire manual wheelchairs, mobility scooters or child strollers if needed.
• Assistance dogs are welcome throughout the park, except in animal walkthrough areas.
• Both Standard and Gold Accessible Memberships are now available to purchase online
