Walsrode World Bird Park and its collection

Weltvogelpark Walsrode – Nature Park Germany GmbH, opened in 1962, is a zoo in Walsrode, Germany.

The park covers 24 hectares and holds roughly 4,000 birds of 650 species. The Humboldt penguin is the only penguin species kept.

History

The merchant Fritz Geschke established the site in 1962 as a private breeding operation for pheasants and waterfowl. It passed in 1964 to his daughter's husband, Wolf W. Brehm, who expanded it rapidly during the 1970s.

Animals and collection

Animals on show include Pinguine, Pelikane, Papageien, Greifvögel and Eule.

Exhibits

The Paradies-Halle, covering 2,100 m², opened in 1968, and a hummingbird house was added at the end of 2011. A walk-through aviary houses budgerigars and cockatiels. The entrance aviary, Reich der Mitte, holds Temminck's tragopan, golden and Lady Amherst pheasants, ducks and herons.
