BIOPARC Valencia and its collection

BIOPARC Valencia, opened in 2008, is a zoo in València, Spain.

It took the place of the Viveros zoo, founded in 1965 and closed in 2007, and opened on 27 February 2008. The site is owned by the city but operated by a private firm, Rain Forest Valencia. Its subject is Africa, and it is split into four biome zones: dry savanna, wet savanna, equatorial forest and Madagascar.

Animals and collection

One of the enclosures in the Madagascar section holds six different species of lemur.

Exhibits

Barriers are concealed by hidden moats, streams and glass, while the planting and props combine local and area-matched vegetation with rocks, caves and giant baobab replicas. A central open-air amphitheatre seating 1,000 is used for bird and mammal shows. The Madagascar section, with three enclosures and an exhibition room, opens half an hour after the rest of the park, and the savanna, the last zone, covers a hectare of scenes drawn from East African parks.
