Sunset Zoological Park and its collection
Sunset Zoological Park, opened in 1933, is a zoo in Manhattan, United States.
History
The city bought the land of Sunset Cemetery in 1929, and a rocky portion unsuitable for graves was turned into a zoo by the government. Animals were present from 1930, though the site was not chartered as a park until 1934.
Animals and collection
Animals on show include prairie dogs, tigers, maned wolves, leopards and otters.
Exhibits
African Trail holds colobus, chimpanzee, violet turaco, cheetah, spotted hyena and okapi, while Expedition Asia houses Malayan tiger, sloth bear, Amur leopard, red panda and lar gibbon. Australian Walk-About shows emu, black swan, kookaburra and two species of wallaby, and Trails of South America includes maned wolf, giant anteater, flamingo and Chacoan peccary. Kansas Plains covers regional fauna: raccoon, swift fox, bald eagle, bobcat and prairie dog.

- Located directly across from the zoo's ticket booth, parking is completely free of charge.
- The Zoo is wheelchair accessible.
- Utilize the ADA-accessible pathway at Expedition Asia for better navigation.
- Wagons, strollers, and wheelchairs available for rent at the ticket booth window.

Sunset Zoo is closed on Thanksgiving, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas day, New Year's Day and on Employee Training Days.
