Squam Lakes Natural Science Center and its collection

Squam Lakes Natural Science Center, opened in 1969, is a zoo in Holderness, United States.

It is the sole AZA-accredited body in the northern part of New England, reaccredited for a second five-year run in September 2011 and again in September 2016. Its mission is to further understanding of ecology through New Hampshire's own environment. Teaching is done through live animal displays, science programmes and lake cruises, with native animals used as ambassadors.

History

Planning began in 1965, and 180 acres were bought in 1966 with money raised locally. It opened to visitors on 1 July 1969.

Animals and collection

Animals on show include Coyote, Fisher, Foxes, Bobcats and Mountain Lions.

Exhibits

Its exhibits include Richard & Jean Lovett Raptor Exhibit, Black Bear Exhibit, River Otter Exhibit, Bobcat Exhibit and Mountain Lion Exhibit.

• While the center does not feature a major full-service restaurant or a commercial cafeteria on-site, visitors are welcome to bring snacks or packed lunches.
• Parking is completely free for visitors during operating hours across the center's dedicated lots. Accessible parking spaces are conveniently located near the Welcome Center, and two electric vehicle (EV) charging stations are available free of charge for guest use. Overnight parking, boat trailers, and parking outside of regular visitor hours are prohibited.
