Salisbury Zoo and its collection

Salisbury Zoo, opened in 1954, is a zoo in Salisbury, United States.

Rather more than 100 animals are kept, the emphasis falling on species from Australia and from North and South America: sloths, alpacas, bison, flamingos, wallabies, an ocelot, a red wolf and raptors taken in as rescues. Nothing is charged for admission.

History

It began in 1954, when animals were put on permanent show in the city park. Work during the 1970s aimed at more naturalistic enclosures. A later campaign brought in close to $3 million for a veterinary clinic, an Environmental Center and an exhibit of Australian animals.

Exhibits

Its exhibits include William E. Morgan Conservation Center and Education Center.
