Qalqilya Zoo and its collection

Qalqilya Zoo, opened in 1986, is a zoo in قلقيلية, Palestine.

Nowhere else in the State of Palestine is there a zoo, and this one has been in place since 1986. Its 170 animals are accompanied by a modest natural history museum, restaurants and an amusement park for children.

History

The zoo was conceived by a former mayor of the town. Israeli zoos supplied animals and it was framed as a symbol of Arab-Israeli cooperation. It was later enlarged to cope with growing numbers of Arab and Israeli visitors.
