DG Khan Zoo and its collection

DG Khan Zoo is a zoo in Dera Ghazi Khan, Pakistan.

The zoo is run by the provincial Forestry, Wildlife and Fisheries department. Its animals have been reported to be in poor shape, in cages described as cramped and unclean.

History

It was set up between 1983 and 1985 on 12 acres, under a scheme to promote wildlife and control hunting. In 2015 the provincial minister Muhammad Asif Malik announced further money for the purchase of animals.

Animals and collection

Among the species kept are the lion, the emu, chukar and grey partridge, white peafowl, rhesus monkey and olive baboon. Accounts describe the animals as being in poor condition, housed in cages that are both cramped and dirty.
