Bahawalpur Zoo and its collection

Bahawalpur Zoo, opened in 1942, is a zoo in تحصیل بہاولپور شہر, Pakistan.

History

The zoo was founded in 1942 by the former ruler Sir Nawab Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi and was originally called Sher Bagh, meaning lion garden. In 1955 its administrator, Dr Ghulam Haider Sumra, moved to the agriculture department. Between 1977 and 1982 it was controlled by the Punjab livestock department.

Enclosures mix older cages with newer moated designs, and a large pond holds pelicans, cranes and geese.
