Bramble Park Zoo

Bramble Park Zoo and its collection

Bramble Park Zoo, opened in 1912, is a zoo in Watertown, United States.

Fifteen acres hold roughly 500 animals from 130 species, making this the second-largest zoo in the state. It stays open through the year, with added measures for animal welfare in winter. Reaccreditation was refused in September 2024.

History

It opened in 1912 and carries the name of Frank Bramble, whose gift of pheasants and other birds stocked the early displays. The original site had become too small by 1940, prompting a move to the present ground, where the Works Progress Administration constructed the replacement exhibits. Reaccreditation was refused in September 2024.

Animals and collection

Jaguar Junction keeps both normal-coloured and black jaguars, with a pond, waterfall and glass viewing panels, and rehabilitated raptors are used in a show at Bird of Prey Plaza. A children's zoo beside the Australian Adventure has goats, donkeys and domestic rabbits.

Conservation and approach

The zoo joins AZA Species Survival Plans and takes part in local conservation work.
