Aquarium of Genoa, opened in 1992, is an aquarium in Genova, Italy.

It opened in 1992, conceived by the architect Renzo Piano for the regeneration scheme around Expo 1992, which marked 500 years since Columbus reached the Americas, and the project led to the reclamation and upgrading of the old port area. Its stated mission covers education, conservation and research directed at safeguarding aquatic environments.

Animals and collection

Acquisition policy favours animals bred at other aquariums, breeding on site, or exchanges of surplus stock with like-minded institutions. Each new tank involves detailed technical and scientific planning, study of the species to be brought in, and retraining of staff.

Exhibits

Its exhibits include Mari Tropicali, Mari Temperati, Mari Freddi, Foreste Tropicali and Acque Dolci.
