Zoosafari Fasanolandia and its collection

Zoosafari Fasanolandia, opened in 1973, is a zoo in Fasano, Italy.

Ranked the second largest zoological garden on the continent, it holds about 3,000 animals of 200 species across thirty hectares, seen from a car route. Groups of giraffe, zebra, lion and Tibetan bear are among the highlights. It keeps the only polar bears, Indian rhinoceroses, gorillas and male African elephant in the country.

History

In the 1970s the Pedali farm business added a farm-stay with a zoo attached in order to attract customers. The zoo opened on 25 July 1973, with Angelo Lombardi designing the animal section. An adjoining funfair followed, named first Fantasilandia and then Fasanolandia.

Animals and collection

Animals on show include leoni, tigri, orsi, elefanti and giraffe.

Its exhibits include Area Safari, Rettilario, Lago dei grandi mammiferi, Villaggio delle scimmie and Area pedonale.
