ZooMontana and its collection

ZooMontana, opened in 1992, is a zoo in Billings, United States.

It is the state's sole zoo and botanical park, concentrating on wildlife found year-round in Montana, the Rockies and other cold zones at or north of the 45th parallel. The grounds are laid out in two main regions, the Asia route being a paved path that runs from the wolves through cottonwood forest.

History

Flooding in March 2014 put over three feet of water across some of the paths.

Animals and collection

Close to 100 animals of 58 species are kept in habitats that mimic the wild. The Asia path branches towards Siberian tiger and red panda.

Conservation and approach

An on-site centre makes and distributes a wildlife contraceptive vaccine and keeps the records required by the FDA and EPA. It coordinates the application of the contraceptive with the AZA Contraception Advisory Group, based at Saint Louis Zoo.
