Zoológico de Concepción, opened in 1978, is a zoo in Concepción, Chile.

The collection numbers 340 animals across upwards of 51 species, on a heavily planted site carrying many kinds of trees.

History

Luis González Espinoza started it in 1978, growing it out of a private family operation breeding pheasants that neighbours came to look at. The farming and livestock service SAG granted zoo status, opening the way to acquiring more species; early arrivals came from Chillán, later ones from elsewhere in Chile and from zoos abroad.

Animals and collection

Mammals kept include eastern grey kangaroo, white lion, ring-tailed lemur and puma.
