Fundación Zoológico de Barranquilla is a zoo in Barranquilla, Colombia.

The Fundación Botánica y Zoológica de Barranquilla runs the zoo on a site of 16,000 m2, adjoining the El Prado district and facing the municipal stadium.

History

The idea goes back to the 1930s, on a plot that Tomás Suri Salcedo had left to the Sociedad de Mejoras Públicas. The first residents of the nursery-park were domestic pigeons belonging to Roberto Puyana, who headed the society.

Animals and collection

Upwards of 700 animals of some 130 native and foreign species are kept, among them a male African elephant, a manatee, a white tiger, an ocelot, a jaguar and zebras. Vulnerable species such as the spectacled bear are also held.
