Thiruvananthapuram Zoo, opened in 1857, is a zoo in Thiruvananthapuram, Kanpur division.

History

It ranks among the earliest zoos established in India, alongside an adjoining museum and botanical gardens that are likewise among the country's earliest of their type. It was conceived by Swathi Thirunal Rama Varma (1816–1846), who ruled Travancore from 1830 to 1846 and kept assorted animals, elephants included, at his horse-breeding establishment.
