Tennoji Zoological Gardens (Osaka Zoo) and its collection
Tennōji Zoo, opened in 1915, is a zoo in Tennōji-ku, Osaka, Osaka, Japan.
It was the third zoo established in the country, and lies southwest of Shitennō-ji.
History
In the late 1920s a chimpanzee named Torō died of pneumonia a month after arriving. The collector Isamu Kagawa was despatched to Africa to find a replacement, Rita, who with her mate Lloyd drew wide attention nationally.
Animals and collection
Animals on show include チンパンジー, ブラッザグエノン, ヨウスコウワニ, メガネフクロウ and コウノトリ.
Exhibits
Elephant Village was previously called the Asian Tropical Rainforest Zone, and a bird house opened on 21 November 2023. Crane housing covers demoiselle, grey crowned, hooded and red-crowned cranes. The marine section splits into two displays, one for penguins and sea lions and one for polar bears.

Things to do include Feeding time / snack time, Night Zoo (special evening opening) and Husbandry training.
