Taronga Western Plains Zoo, opened in 1977, is a zoo in Dubbo, Australia.

The zoo lies on the Newell Highway, roughly five kilometres out from the town.

History

It was conceived in the late 1960s as a plains counterpart to Taronga, intended to provide breeding and open-range space for grazing animals. A site was chosen on the edge of Dubbo in central western New South Wales. It opened on 28 February 1977, giving elephants and antelope the room that the cramped Sydney site lacked.

Located at the Savannah Visitor Plaza, offering cafe favorites, meals, and coffee with views overlooking Savannah Lake.
Dedicated parking for caravans and trailers is provided just inside the entry gates.
Features dedicated accessible parking bays and accessible public restrooms across the grounds.
Complimentary wheelchair hire is available (it is recommended to book or inquire ahead).
Companion cards are accepted for free entry for registered carers assisting guests with accessibility needs.
