Ranua Wildlife Park and its collection

Ranua Wildlife Park, opened in 1983, is a zoo in Ranua, Finland.

Annual attendance now runs at around 100,000, with summer visitors mostly Finnish and winter visitors mostly from abroad. The wider resort adds lodging along with snowmobiling and husky safaris. There is a restaurant on site, the Wild Arctic Restaurant.

History

The proposal surfaced in 1979, promoted among others by Kauno Harju, then head of the municipality, with the aim of restarting local economic growth through tourism. Building work began in 1982, and an operating company, Ranuan seudun matkailu Oy, was set up at the same time. In the first year 110,374 people came.

• Spacious, free parking is conveniently located right in front of the Wildlife Park's main entrance, with designated spaces and electric vehicle charging points (via the Virta app) available.
• Most of the park's route consists of wooden footbridges offering clear views of the enclosures.
• The path is generally navigable with wheelchairs, rollators, and strollers, though visitors note that the first hill can be steep and slightly challenging during snowy winter conditions.
• Wheelchairs and rollators are available to borrow at the ticket office, and accessible restrooms are located near both the entrance and the middle of the park.
