Peshawar Zoo and its collection

Peshawar Zoo, opened in 2018, is a zoo in پيښور ښار تحصیل, Pakistan.

It covers 29 acres next to the Pakistan Forest Institute and is managed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's forests, environment and wildlife department. It is ranked the second largest zoo in Pakistan, behind Karachi's.

History

Building formally began on 3 February 2016 at a ground-breaking attended by Imran Khan and the KP chief minister, Pervez Khattak. It opened to the public in February 2018, though accounts differ on the exact day.

Exhibits

A walk-through aviary occupies the middle of the 29-acre site, which adjoins the Pakistan Forest Institute. Four roofed pens with indoor shelters make up the Leopard House, while the lion house combines indoor quarters with a moated yard. Elsewhere are Indian cobras, peregrines, griffon vultures, Javan green peafowl, black bears, grey gorals, markhors, blackbucks and giraffes.
