Parque de las Leyendas and its collection
Parque de las Leyendas is a zoo in San Miguel, Peru.
It is the country's biggest and best-attended zoo, and also holds museums, a botanical garden and leisure areas. The metropolitan municipality of Lima administers it.
History
The conservationist Felipe Benavides Barreda founded it on 20 March 1964 in the Pando district, under the government of Fernando Belaúnde Terry. Common usage shifted the original name to the form used officially today. A second site at Ate Vitarte was formerly Parque Zoológico Huachipa, before Lima's municipality took it over in 2023 under Rafael López-Aliaga.
