Nehru Zoological Park and its collection

Nehru Zoological Park, opened in 1963, is a zoo in Hyderabad, Kanpur division.

History

Work on the site began on 26 October 1959, and visitors were first admitted on 6 October 1963. The Telangana forest department is in charge, and the park takes its name from Jawaharlal Nehru.

Animals and collection

Close to 100 species of birds, mammals and reptiles are kept. The multi-arched embankment of the neighbouring tank pulls in hundreds of migratory birds.

Conservation and approach

Animals bred at the park have gone to deer parks and sanctuaries across the country to restock wild populations. The state forest department has asked Maharashtra for 10 critically endangered vultures in order to expand captive breeding.
