La Serena Zoo and its collection

La Serena Zoo is a zoo in La Serena, Chile.

Founded in 2006 by Erwin Vernal, the zoo holds 150 species. The site also has a picnic ground, a barbecue shelter with grills, and swimming pools.

Exhibits

The collection is arranged by region. The African section holds lion, meerkat, zebra, porcupine, ostrich, green monkey and caracal, while the Euro-Asian section holds white tiger, red fox, brown bear, mandarin duck and golden pheasant. Australian species include emu, sulphur-crested cockatoo, budgerigar and rosella; the American section holds capuchin, ocelot, capybara, macaws, black panther and toco toucan; and the Chilean section holds puma, Juan Fernández goat, alpaca and Chilean flamingo.
