Kuwait Zoo
Kuwait Zoo and its collection
Kuwait Zoo, opened in 1968, is a zoo in الفروانية, Kuwait.
The zoo was set up in 1968 and covers roughly 180,000 square metres.
History
It was badly damaged during the Iraqi invasion of 1990 and was afterwards repaired and reopened. A renovation in early 1993 brought in animals from other zoos. It closed on 12 March 2020 as a Covid precaution.
Conservation and approach
No contraception or sterilisation is used, the zoo relying instead on separating animals into different cages. The resulting overpopulation leads it to sell off ponies, deer, sheep and peacocks to the public.
