Kraków Zoo and its collection
Kraków Zoo, opened in 1929, is a zoo in Kraków, Lesser Poland Voivodeship, Poland.
History
Before the modern garden there was a menagerie at Wawel holding monkeys, camels, lions, leopards and many rodents, which declined once Zygmunt III Waza shifted the royal seat to Warsaw. Further menageries appeared around the city in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Members of the local branch of the Copernicus natural history society — Wincenty Wober, Kazimierz Maślankiewicz, Leon Holcer and Karol Łukaszewicz — proposed siting the zoo in Las Wolski, near the Camaldolese monastery at Bielany.

- However, on weekends and holidays, driving restrictions in Wolski Forest apply, requiring visitors to park in a lower lot about 1 kilometer away and walk uphill or take public transit.
- Paved pathways make walking and using strollers manageable throughout most outdoor areas, though strollers are restricted inside the exotic animal house.
