Korea Central Zoo — Zoo in Pyongyang

Korea Central Zoo and its collection

Korea Central Zoo, opened in 1959, is a zoo in North Korea.

Ground of about a square kilometre next to Mount Taesong holds more than 5,000 animals of 650 species. Kim Il Sung is said to have ordered its creation, dated to April 1959. Gift animals from foreign leaders and members of the public numbered some 400 by 2001, and every elephant there traces back to one presented by Ho Chi Minh in 1959.
