Junsele Zoo and its collection

Junsele Zoo is a zoo in Junsele, Sweden.

Around 25 animal species are kept. It is best known for its white Bengal tigers, and other stock includes brown bear, lynx, yak, camel, llama, red-necked wallaby, donkey and elk. A farm section serves as a children's zoo and zoo school, with mini Shetland ponies, dwarf goats, mini pigs, rabbits and guinea pigs.

History

It was begun on a small scale in the early 1960s by the local sports club Junsele IF, with Johannes Johansson, nicknamed Kebbe, driving the project. Formal opening came in 1965, though a pony and a roe deer had been acquired in 1959, and a 60th anniversary was marked in 2019. The rural district bought it in 1969 and ran it municipally until 1992.
