Greater Vancouver Zoo — Zoo in Langley
Greater Vancouver Zoo and its collection
Greater Vancouver Zoo, opened in 1970, is a zoo in Langley Twp, Canada.
The collection shown to the public covers 49 species, a figure counted in May 2026.
History
The businessman Pat Hines bought 120 acres at Aldergrove late in the 1960s intending to run a game farm, and the operation was first registered as World Wide Game Farm Ltd. Its doors opened on 20 August 1970 under the name Vancouver Game Farm. It carried the name Greater Vancouver Zoological Centre from 1995 and took its present one in 1999.
Animals and collection
A count in May 2026 put 49 species on public display. Addax and Père David's deer have been bred there, as have red pandas, the earliest such breeding anywhere in western Canada; the Asian elephant Tina lived on the site from 1970 until 2004.
