Dickerson Park Zoo and its collection
Dickerson Park Zoo, opened in 1922, is a zoo in Springfield, United States.
History
Springfield's Park Board created the park in 1922, and it was built up during the 1930s with labour and money from the Works Progress Administration. Little further development followed until the 1970s, and by 1975 the site was run-down. Near closure, it was saved by a pledge from the city and by a new Friends of the Zoo group.
Animals and collection
Animals on show include Maned Wolf, Flamingo, Macaw, Red Kangaroo and Emu.
Exhibits
Its exhibits include Bear Country, South America, Australia, North America and Tropical Asia.
Things to do
Things to do include giraffe feeding deck, Outback Corral petting zoo, Titus Express Miniature Train and Jumping Jewels water feature.
What the venue says
- **Military Discount:** $14 for adults/teens and $9 for children (applies to active/retired military personnel and up to three family members with valid ID).
- There is an on-site café that operates seasonally.
- **Parking is free** in the zoo's main parking lot located immediately in front of the zoo entrance.
- Most walking paths at the zoo are paved, making them accessible for guests with mobility issues
- Manual wheelchairs are available to rent for $10 per day
- Electric Convenience Vehicles (electric wheelchairs) are available for $30 per day
- Single strollers ($8) and double strollers ($10) are also available for rent
- trained service dogs assisting individuals with disabilities are permitted
