Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden and its collection
Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden, opened in 1866, is a zoo in Budapest, Hungary.
The garden covers 18.4 hectares in the Városliget at Állatkerti körút 6-12, and has been protected as a nature conservation area since 1986. From its opening in 1866 until the 1950s it was the only such institution in the country, before provincial zoos began. Its main activities are conservation, teaching, outdoor recreation and scientific research, and it draws 1 to 1.1 million visitors a year.
