Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden, opened in 1958, is a zoo in Guwahati, Kanpur division.

The grounds lie inside the Hengrabari Reserved Forest. The population exceeds 1,125 animals, birds and reptiles drawn from more than 115 species worldwide.

History

The Indian National Congress held its 64th session locally in 1957, and the session's organising committee mounted a display of animals and birds whose star was a female leopard cub called Spotty. Once the session closed, a zoo was seen as needed to keep those animals.
