Amirthi Zoological Park
Amirthi Zoological Park and its collection
Amirthi Zoological Park, opened in 1967, is a zoo in Vellore District, Kanpur division.
Opened in 1967, it lies roughly 25 km out from Vellore city and covers 25 hectares, taking in waterfalls. Amirthi is described as the largest forest in Tamil Nadu, rich in flora and fauna. Half the forest was cleared for tourism and the remainder developed as a wildlife sanctuary.
What the venue says
- Explore the natural cascading **Amirthi Waterfalls** , which can be reached via a short 1-kilometer trek.
- Enjoy a quiet family picnic or take a relaxing nature walk along rock-cut pathways.
- Utilize the children's play area for younger visitors or spend some quiet time at the on-site meditation hall.
- There are no major commercial restaurants or large cafeterias directly inside the park gates. Visitors usually bring their own picnic baskets, snacks, and drinking water, though basic local eateries and tea stalls can be found along the approach roads outside the forest reserve.
- Ample parking space is available near the main entrance of the park to safely accommodate cars, two-wheelers, and buses.
- While the park features paved and rock-cut walkways suited for general exploration, the terrain near the waterfalls and trekking paths can be uneven. Designated senior-friendly facilities and assistance are somewhat limited due to the rustic, forest-like environment.
