The Best Zoos in Mexico City
How this list is ordered: by how complete our listing is — how much we hold on opening hours, ticket prices, accreditation, photographs, animals and facilities. It is a measure of our own coverage, not a judgement of the venue. We hold no visitor scores or conservation assessments, so “best” here means every zoo in Mexico City that qualifies for the list, fullest entry first.
Listed alphabetically
-
Zoologico de Chapultepec
Zoo in Ciudad de Mexico
The zoo takes up 17 hectares in the first section of the Chapultepec woodland. It is the most visited zoo in the country, topping five million visitors a year. It ranks second largest nationally behind the Guadalajara zoo and holds a herpetarium, a butterfly house and an elephant museum.
-
Zoológico de San Juan de Aragón
Zoo in Venustiano Carranza
A radial layout with semicircular enclosures allows the animals to be seen from any standpoint, and the 104 enclosures went up in roughly three months. They were built to display 1,650 individuals of 135 species. Wide concrete floors, a lack of shade and barred enclosures held back a more modern approach to zoo keeping.

Zoológico Los Coyotes
Zoo in Coyoacán
Zoológico Los Coyotes, opened in 1999, is a zoo in Coyoacán, Mexico.
Our ranking methodology
This is not a ranking. The 3 venues above are listed alphabetically by name, the same order used throughout this site. We do not collect visitor reviews, star ratings, ticket-sales figures or a conservation-impact score, so none of those exist here to rank by — “best” in this page’s title means every venue that qualifies for this list, not first-to-last by quality. If we ever add a data source robust enough to support an honest ranking, this note and the order above will change together.
